meet your sporting hero
This time last year, the executive chef of the JW Marriott Grosvenor House hotel, Paul Bates, was in the same role at the Hilton London Bankside, whose GM James Clarke sits on Hospitality Action’s London fundraising board.
When James suggested the hotel hosted a fundraising event for Social Sunday, Paul decided to theme a lunch in the OXBO restaurant around one of his passions, rugby union. He reached out to legendary England, Barbarians and Lions lock, Simon Shaw MBE through social media and invited him to come along and join the lunch. Being a director of rugby hospitality events company and a thoroughly good egg (chaser), Simon accepted. Paul then had to source a set of chef’s whites for a 6ft 8in forward.
Lunch was a three-course set menu, with all profits coming to Social Sunday. Simon entered fully into the occasion, addressing the room, chatting with guests and posing for selfies. The result? A great fun lunch and a healthy injection of cash for Social Sunday.
Do you have a sport or entertainment legend you’d like to tempt over to your restaurant or hotel? Social Sunday might just be your best chance.
